- Add regular potatoes & carrots. Stir, add more water if needed. Let beef & potatoes simmer for 10 minutes. Then add sweet potatoes & onions, stir. After 6 minutes, add red pepper flakes, stir again. Let boil 5 minutes.
- Add tomato paste & brown sugar, stir again. Let stew boil until reaching desired thickness. Serve over white rice or with bread.
Remove from skillet, reserving juices, and season with salt and pepper. Mix in the diced tomatoes and juice. Stir, then bring to a boil. Stir in beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire, thyme, rosemary, paprika, caraway seeds and bay leaves until well combined; season with salt and pepper, to taste. For the spiced beef hot dish: Place the bacon in an even layer in a Dutch oven or large cast-iron pan and turn the heat to medium-high.
